Burton Dale Allen
Burton Dale Allen, 90, died Feb. 19, 2008, at Niobrara Health and Life Center in Lusk. Graveside services were held at the Lusk Cemetery on Feb. 26, 2008 with Pastor Dale Smith officiating.
Burton was born March 16, 1917, in Lusk, to Charles and Anna (Ingram) Allen. Upon the death of his mother, his family moved back to Royal, Neb. As a young man, Burt returned to Lusk to work on area ranches. In 1940 he enlisted in the US Army and served until receiving an honorable discharge Oct. 11, 1945. While in the Army he received the American Defense Service Medal, the European African Middle-Eastern Campaign Medal, and the Good Conduct Medal. He served in Persia as a truck driver, and was an Expert Rifleman. Upon his discharge from the Army, he located in Bremerton, Wash., where he worked in the shipyards until his retirement. He moved to Lusk in the 1990's.
He was married to Vivian Bell, who preceded him in death.
Burt was in the Northwest Laborers Union in Bremerton, Wash., and was in the American Legion. He was an avid golfer, a baseball player, bowler, a wrestler, and a great dancer. He owned and flew his own plane, visiting his relatives yearly. He was also a mechanic.
He is survived by his nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, and his brothers Gerald, Verle, and Orval, and his sister, Myrtle. Memorials are suggested to Crossroad Ministries, Box 503, Lusk, WY 82225. Pier Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
