Tom Rennard Dies of Auto Crash Injuries

Tom Rennard 68, north Niobrara County rancher for 46 years, died Tuesday evening at 6:40 from injuries suffered at 11:30 that morning in an accident 8 miles north of Lusk.

Mr. Rennard, with his daughter-in-law, Mrs. Sam Rennard, was returning to the ranch in a pickup truck. The icy condition of the road caused the truck to skid, leave the road and turn over. Mrs. Rennard was thrown clear and uninjured except or a few bruises, but Mr. Rennard was pinned underneath. A Burlington bus stopped and driver and passengers helped lift the truck from him.

Deputy Sheriff Bud Cantwell, who had been out north to check on a deer killed by a car, investigated the accident.

A highway crew coming upon the scene administered first aid, applying a tourniquet to Mr. Rennard's injured arm. The Peet ambulance was called and he was brought to the Spencer Hospital.

Mr. Rennard had homesteaded the ranch on which he lives. In recent years, his son, Sam, has been associated with him there.

Besides his wife and son, Sam, two other sons, Tom, Jr. of Casper and Robert of Cheyenne, survive. There are also six grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held from the Edgemont Congregational Church Friday afternoon at 2:00 p.m.
