Robert Clifford "Bob" Dockery
Robert Clifford "Bob" Dockery was born Oct. 14, 1935 in Thermopolis to Clifford Roy and Edna "Ready" Dockery. Bob was the eldest of the four Dockery children. He grew up on Owl Creek with his family. Bob entered the Armed Services in 1958 and served in Alaska as a truck driver, welder and on the ski patrol. During that time he returned to Thermopolis and was the best man at his brother Carl's wedding. Bob was honorably discharged in December 1963.
In August 1960, Bob marred Bonnie Jean Speaks and they began their lives together on Buffalo Creek working on the Paul Axtel Ranch until 1961. In May of that year, Renita Collette was born and in September the family moved to Rawlins where Bob worked for Newman Transit for the next year. Bob, Bonnie and Renita then moved back to Thermopolis where Bob worked construction. In April of 1964 Dolores Dawn was born and Bob, Bonnie and the girls again picked up stakes and moved to Meteetsee and worked for Ollie Cookla until 1967. In that year, they moved back to Thermopolis and Bob took a job working for Hot Springs County. Stacy Lynn was born in 1968 and the family stayed in Thermopolis until 1973. Bob and Bonnie were divorced in 1973.
From 1973 until 1982 Bob had a fencing business working with Lyle Hammond and Jerry Hart and he also owned and operated a roustabout business, which took him all over the State of Wyoming. In 1982 Bob married Eleanor Rouse in Denver. The couple moved to the Debbie Axtel Ranch near Thermopolis and worked and lived there until Bob started with the State of Wyoming Water Commission based in Thermopolis where he worked until he retired in 2001. He lost his wife Eleanor to cancer in 2001.
Bob spent the remainder of his retired years enjoying his grandchildren and great grandchildren, and fishing and hunting with his many friends and family and keeping up with all the family "doin's". He enjoyed watching his grandsons ride bulls, going to high school rodeos to see his granddaughters and grandsons participate in their events.
Bob passed away Jan. 25, 2008 at the VA Hospital in Sheridan after a long and courageous battle with illness. He was the toughest man we've ever seen and even when he was in pain and suffering greatly, he always had a smile on his face and a mischievous "Dockery" twinkle in his eyes.
Bob is survived by his brothers Carl (Carol) Dockery, of Thermopolis, Bill Dockery of Lusk and his sister Colleen (Frankie) Rhodes of Thermopolis. His children, Renita (Allen) Castelberry, Dolores Longhofer, both of Gillette, Stacy (Lee) Marriott of Stover, Missouri, eight grandchildren, two great grandchildren and step-children, Jody (Emily) Rouse and Ben Rouse of Colorado and three step-grandchildren.
A memorial service was held Feb. 1 at the Eagle's Club in Thermopolis.
