Mrs. Etta Senters, 79, Dies Thursday After Long Illness
Death came to Mrs. Etta V. Senters, 79, Thursday evening, Jan. 24 at the Niobrara Memorial Hospital where she had been a patient since last Sept.
Mrs. Senters had been afflicted with arthritis for more than 20 years, being an invalid most of the time, and her condition had been complicated in recent months by a heart ailment.
Etta Victoria Thralls was born July 27, 1872 at Terra Haute, Ind. the daughter of Michael J. and Cynthia Rector Thralls. When a small girl her mother died and she was sent to St. Mary's of The Woods Convent at Terre Haute. Her grandfather had donated the land and helped in other ways to establish the school and convent.
When she was 13 the family moved to Long Pine, Nebr., where she grew to young womanhood, and on Dec. 1, 1892 was married to Charles E. Senters. They are the parents of eight children, five survive with three sons, William, Charley and Lawrence dying while very young.
Mr. Senters was engaged in railroad work on the Chicago & Northwestern and the family resided for a time in So. Dak., moving to Douglas in 1908 and then to Lusk in 1917.
Death came to Mr. Senters at Gering, Nebr., in Sept. 1937 where he had been taken in the hopes that the change would prove beneficial to his health.
Rosary services were held for Mrs. Senters at the Peet Chapel on Friday evening at 8:00 p.m. by Father M. J. McBrien with funeral services being conducted from St. Leo's Catholic church on Saturday morning at ten o'clock.
Casket bearers were her son, Victor Senters and three sons-in-law, Harry Austin, Henry McGinnis and Zeno Renig.
The remains were taken to Chadron, Nebr., from where they were shipped to Oakdale, Nebr., with interment being in the family plot in the cemetery at that place.
Survivors are three daughters, Mrs. Edna Austin and Mrs. Henry McGinnis of Lusk and Mrs. Irene Renig of Denver, Colo., and two sons, Roy Senters, San Bernardino, Calif., and Victor B. Senters of Lusk.
There are four grandchildren, Mrs. Maxine Koch and Miss Donna Austin of Lusk, Mrs. Louise Lawrence of Hawthorne, Calif., Mrs. Dick Parrish of Compton, Calif., and three great grandchildren, Leslie and Donald Lawrence of Hawthorne, Calif., and Greg Parrish of Compton, Calif.
The remains were accompanied to Oakdale by Mr. and Mrs. Zeno Renig, Mr. and Mrs. Harry Austin, Mr. and Mrs. Henry McGinnis and Mr. and Mrs. Victor Senters.
