Charles Eutsler Killed Walking Along Highway

Charles Eutsler, 24, was instantly killed at Lance Creek Tuesday evening about 6:00 o'clock while walking along the highway and being struck by a car driven by James Moss of Manville.

Highway Patrolman M. S. Jordan, who investigated the accident, said it occurred at the bridge between the Gateway and Mosierville. Eutsler was three feet from the end of the bridge when struck by the right fender of the Moss car. The body was thrown up on the car and carried 114 feet. Eutsler's neck and right leg were broken.

Bewildered by what had happened Moss drove on a short distance, then returned to the scene of the accident. He told Patrolman Jordan that he remembered what Jordan had said at a Continental Oil Co. safety meeting some time ago, "Never leave the scene of an accident."

Eutsler had been to the Gateway and was returning to his home in Mosierville. Moss, though employed at Lance Creek, was on vacation and had driven out to Lance Creek to borrow a shotgun and was returning home to Manville when the accident occurred. Patrolman Jordan said Eutsler was wearing all dark clothing and was walking on the wrong side of the road, going with the traffic instead of facing it. He said that another car was approaching Moss.

He leaves besides his widow, who came here from England, one child of four years and a month-old baby. No funeral arrangements had yet been made at the Herald press time Wednesday afternoon.
