Minnie H. Brown Dies Last Wed.

Minnie H. Brown, 69, wife of Gilbert Brown, died at the family home in Lusk on Wednesday evening, May 3, after an illness of several months.

Mrs. Brown came to Wyoming in 1919 with her husband and family from the State of Illinois, and they have lived here almost continuously since that time. They lived at Lance Creek for many years, but in 1945 rented a home in Lusk where Mrs. Brown has since resided. She was by nature a friendly person and made many friends during the years she has resided here.

Minnie H. Brown was born at Fountain Green, Ill., on July 24, 1880. She was the daughter of Lewis and Ermina Rhea and spent her girlhood in Fountain Green, where in 1899 she was married to William Hurley and they became the parents of seven daughters.

Mr. Hurley died in 1913, leaving his widow the care and reaponsibility of rearing seven little girls. In 1915 she was married to Gilbert Brown and they spent several years in Illinois before coming to Lance Creek in 1919.

Four children were born to this marriage, three daughters and a son. Mrs. Brown was a devoted mother and the death of her son, Royce, in 1949, was the beginning of her last illness.

Surviving are her husband, Gilbert Brown, and her ten daughters - Mrs. Ethel Thayer, Cody, Wyo.; Mrs. Bernice Sessions, Casper. Wyo.; Mrs. Dorothy Herbison, Heppner, Ore.; Mrs. Gayle Brown, Denver, Colo.; Mrs. Fannie Kuehn, St. Louis, Mo.; Mrs. Mildred Jeffres and Mrs. Ruth West, both of Bloomington, Ill.; Mrs. Euresa Michelli, San Francisco, Calif.; Mrs. Lucille Aberle, Lance Creek, and Mrs. Leota Percival of Lusk, and Bobby Brown of the family home. Sixteen grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Brown was preceded in death by her son, Royce, and one granddaughter, Francis Lindahl, her parents and a brother. She is the last member of her immediate family.

Funeral services were conducted from the Peet Chapel on Sunday, May 7th, at 2:30 p.m., with the Rev. Lawrence P. Juell,
pastor of the Congregational Church, officiating.

Mrs. H. J. Templeton sang as a solo, "In the Garden," and the song, "0ld Rugged Cross," was sung as a duet by Mrs. H.J. Templeton and Mrs. A. F. DeCastro. Rex Yocum was the accompanist on the chapel organ.

Friends bearing the remains to their last resting place were Foster Jackson, Joe Traphagan, Ivan Maxwell, Charles Long, H.J. Templeton and James Hoblit. Interment was made in the Lusk cemetery beside her son Royce.

Mrs. Brown's daughter, Mrs. George Jeffres of Bloomington, Ill., was here a couple of weeks prior to her mother's death, and she and her sister, Mrs. Leota Percival, were with their mother at the time of her passing.

Other relatives from out of town here for the services, besides Mrs. Jeffres, were Mrs. Ruth West of Bloomington, Ill.; Mrs. Fannie Kuehn of St. Louis, Mo.; Mr. and Mrs. Thayer of Casper; Hurley Brown of Denver, Colo.; Mrs. Charles Sasse of Cheyenne; Mr. and Mrs. Hugh Brown of Englewood, Colo., and Mr. and Mrs. O. F. Aberle and son John of Lance Creek.

Another daughter, Mrs. Dorothy Herbison of Heppner, Ore., returned to her home less than a week before her mother's death, after having spent some time here helping to care for her mother.
