Grace Dorothy Thomas

Grace Dorothy Thomas, 72, died Jan. 25, 1987 at the rural Sioux County, NE home where she and her husband, Everett, have lived since 1945.

Memorial services were Jan. 27 at the Methodist Church in Harrison, NE with the Rev. Alan Davis officiating. Burial was in the Harrison Cemetery.

Mrs. Thomas was born Nov. 13, 1914 in Kirtley, east of Lusk, to Walt and Sarah (Sadie) Martin. Her grandfather, William Martin, came from Virginia to homestead in the Five Points community north of Harrison, NE, and her mother's family, the Edwin Butlers, came from Iowa and homesteaded south of Harrison. Mrs. Thomas' parents went on to Wyoming to establish their homestead.

On Dec. 20, 1933, Mr. and Mrs. Thomas were married in Hot Springs, SD. The couple moved to the Thomas family homestead in 1945 and celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary in 1983.

Before her marriage, Mrs Thomas was a member of an all-girl band and she and her husband were charter members of the Country Square Dance Club. She was also a member of the Harrison Rebekahs and worked on the Sioux County election board for many years.

Mrs. Thomas spent her life as her husband's companion and helpmate. She loved to watch the wildlife that congregated on the Thomas ranch and constantly gave of herself to her many friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother. She is survived by her husband, Everett, three sisters-in-law, one brother-in-law, several nieces and nephews and many friends.
