Pioneer Woman, Minnie Hargraves, Dies Here Saturday
A pioneer woman of this section of Wyoming, Mrs. Minnie Hargraves, died at the Spencer Hospital in Lusk, Saturday, August 20, in her 84th year.
Minnie Danforth was born December 12, 1865, in the county of Waupun, Fond du Lac, Wisconsin, on the farm of her grandparents, the Leonard Chesneys. When 9 years of age she moved with her parents to Brandon, Wisconsin, where most of her school days were spent.
In 1886 she worked in the Register of Deeds office in Fond du Lac, and on September 20, 1893, she was married to Charles Hargraves of Lusk, Wyo., and came here to live.
The family lived in Lusk part of the time, but most of the years were spent on the ranch south of Lusk, and since the death of her husband, on May 8, 1931, she has made her home with her sons, Lloyd and Noel, who operate the ranch, until a few months ago when, because of illness, she has been at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Allen Haynes, of Guernsey, Wyo.
She was brought to Lusk last week by the Peet ambulance, after suffering a stroke, and passed away here on Monday.
Mr. and Mrs. Hargraves are the parents of four children, Lloyd, Nellie Alberta, Neal and Noel, the latter being twins. Neal died when six months old.
Funeral services wee held from the Peet chapel on Tuesday afternoon, August 23, by Rev. H.T. Clark, pastor of the First Baptist Church, officiating.
The songs, "Beautiful Isle of Somewhere," and "God be With You" were sung as a duet by Mrs. Emerson Bonner and Miss Justine Watson, with Mrs. A.F. DeCastro as accompanist.
The casket bearers were J.W. Wolfe, Robert Wolfe, Dan Nolan, Gina Nolan, Charles Frederick and Henry Frederick.
Interment was made in the Lusk cemetery beside her husband and infant son.
Surviving are her two sons, Lloyd and Noel, and her daughter, Mrs. Nellie Haynes of Guernsey; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
