Lotta Martin
Mrs. Ben Martin Dies in Denver On January 12
Mrs. Lotta Martin, 58, wife of Ben Martin, passed away at St. Luke's Hospital in Denver Wednesday forenoon, Jan. 12, at 10 o'clock. She had arrived at the hospital only the day before, being taken there from Lusk by her husband and Greg Kuhn.
Mrs. Martin had been in failing health for several months and was a patient during December in Casper where her ailment was diagnosed as tularemia. She seemed considerably improved by Christmas time and was allowed to go to the home of her son and wife, Mr. and Mrs. William J. Morey, of Riverton where she and Mr. Martin spent the holidays and then returned to Lusk.
After arriving here she became worse again and was taken to Denver in the hopes that something might he done for her. The remains were shipped to Riverton where funeral services were conducted Saturday from the Davis Mortuary. Mrs. Martin's mother was also buried in the Riverton Cemetery.
Many friends from here wanted to attend the services but the weather was so stormy by the end of the week that people did not dare undertake the trip. Mrs. Virgil Shoopman and daughter, Dottie, did get through, but they left Thursday after receiving word of Mrs. Martin's death. Mrs. Shoopman is a sister of Mrs. Morey.
Mrs. Martin was born at Franklin, Mich. and 23 years ago was married to Ben Martin. Since that time they have resided in this community, living for a time on a ranch in the northern part of the county. They then resided on what was known as the Hobbs Ranch south of Lusk, and bought the Jack McFarlane ranch near Lance Creek where they lived for some time and after selling it moved to Manville, where they have made their home recently.
Surviving her is her husband, Ben Martin, her son, William J. Morey, and two grandchildren, William and James Morey.
