Matilda M. Barnes, 89, Dies in Iowa
Mrs. Matilda M. Barnes, 89, died at a Sioux City hospital Dec. 21. Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. Dec. 23 at Sibley, Ia., with Reverend Beebe of the Congregational Church officiating.
Mrs. Barnes was born Jan. 16, 1862 in Winnebago County, Wis. She moved to Osceola County, Ia. in 1871 and was married to Herbert E. Barnes Dec. 21, 1882 at Sibley. Eight children were born to the couple and the family moved to Lusk in April, 1910. Mrs. Barnes continued to reside here until going to visit her daughter, Mrs. Harold Spencer in Sioux City.
Surviving are four daughters, Mrs. Mary Carroll, Lander, Wyo.; Mrs. Jennie Graves, Wilmington, Calif.; Mrs. Oral Grimm, Long Beach, Calif.; Mrs. Dorothy Spencer, Sioux City; two sons, Fred W. of Grants Pass, Ore., and Ross E. of Douglas, Wyo.; and one brother, Austin Spencer, of Sioux City, and several grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Her husband and two children previously died, her husband July 7, 1927, a daughter, Minnie in 1887, and a son, Emmett E., in 1918.
