Hill Z. Shatto, 83, Dies at Douglas

Hill Z. Shatto, 83, early settler and long time resident of the Kirtley community, died suddenly at Douglas, Wyo., Thursday, Dec. 7.

Born at Audibon, Iowa, Dec. 10, 1867, Mr. Shatto came to Wyoming in 1894 and homesteaded in what was then known as the Pleasant Ridge community, later renamed Kirtley. In 1903 he was married to Mrs. Addie McDermott at Harrison, Nebr., and they continued to live at Kirtley until 1936 when the family moved to Douglas where they have since resided.

The deceased is the last of a family of nine children.

Besides his wife he is survived by a son, Earl Shatto of Douglas and two daughters, Miss Ruby Shatto of Douglas and Mrs. Ida Thomas of Bonners Ferry, Idaho and two step-children, Clarence McDermott of Douglas and Mrs. Ruth Evanson of Vancouver, Wash.

Other relatives in Lusk are Mrs. Frances Church who is a niece and two nephews Roy and Hill Boyles.

Funeral services were conducted from the Hoffman Mortuary in Douglas on Monday afternoon with interment being made in the Douglas Park cemetery.

Relatives from Lusk and Harrison, Nebr. who attended the services were Mr. and Mrs. Francis Church, Mr. and Mrs. John Hammond, Mr. and Mrs. Earl Seegrist, Mrs. Rollie Gagstetter, Mr. and Mrs. J.H. Christian, Mr. and Mrs. H. V. Boyles and Elmas, Mr. and Mrs. John Davis, Mr. and Mrs. H.B. Golden and Roy Boyles.
