John Harlan Lohr, 79, Longtime Rancher Dies

The funeral for longtime area rancher John Harlan Lohr was Wednesday in Lusk at the Peet Mortuary Chapel. Lohr, 79, died April 29 at the ranch he and his wife had lived on since 1925.

He was born Jan. 31, 1899 in Kirtley, Wyo.. the son of John H. and Anna A. Lohr. He received his education in the rural schools in Kirtley and enlisted in the U.S. Army Dec. 1, 1917. He served In France and was discharged Aug. 16, 1919. He then homesteaded north of Hat Creek.

He and Ruby M. Hanson were married May 14, 1922 at Harrison, Neb. They lived several places before settling in Kirtley.

Lohr served as a local school board member in the Kirtley community and as a charter member of Ferdinand Branstetter American Legion Post No. 1 at Van Tassell. He was also a member of the Wyoming Farm Bureau and the Niobrara Stockgrowers Association.

He was preceded in death by his parents, stepmother, one son Gene: five infant grandchildren, two sisters and six brothers.

He is survived by his wife Ruby, three sons, Walt and John of Lusk, and George of Buckhead, Ga.; four daughters, Grace Wilkison of Manville, Mary Porter of Lusk, Ida McAdoo of Cerritos, Calif., and Edna Kazandjian of Whittier, Calf.; 19 grandchildren, five sisters, five brothers, numerous nieces and nephews also survive.

Officiating at the funeral was Rev. Ron Marshall. Music was provided by Minerva Watson with Mark Lohr as soloist. Songs were "These Hands." and "How Great Thou Art".

Interment was at the Pleasant Ridge Cemetery in Kirtley.

Pallbearers were Ted Erlewine, Bob Holmes, Herb Hanson, Don Heckert, Glen Erlewine and Ralph Hanson.
