Lloyd Schaefer Dies Unexpectedly Of Heart Attack Tuesday Afternoon

Lloyd Schaefer, 47, died suddenly Tuesday afternoon about 3:00 o'clock of an unexpected heart attack.

He, Mrs. Schaefer and Tom Hall, an employee at their dairy a mile north of Lusk had been working with a heifer during the afternoon and had just returned to the house when the attack came. Mr. Schaefer was rushed to the Spencer Hospital but died a short time later.

In the past ten years he has built the most extensive dairy farm operated in Niobrara County, becoming the largest supplier here for the Kilmer Creamery. Through the years the dairy has undergone a continuing program of improvement both in operating facilities and quality of the cow herd of which approximately 70 are now milking.

Before going into the dairy business, Mr. Schaefer had worked 17 years for Continental Oil Company at Lance Creek. He and Mrs. Schaefer have been married 25 years. Both are children of pioneer families of this area. He is the son of the late Fred Schaefer of Sioux County and Mrs. Agnes Andrews of Harrison. His father burned to death when Lloyd was a boy of 12. Mrs. Schaefer is the daughter of the late James Christian and Nellie Christian.

Surviving besides his wife and mother are three children, Mrs. Don Neil, Albuquerque, N. Mex.; Jay Dee, a sophomore at the University of Wyoming; Gwen, a senior in high school here; a step-daughter, Mrs. Harold Killam, whose husband is in oil field work on the interior out of Barcelona, Venezuela; one sister, Mrs. Roy Johnson, Lusk; a half brother Donald Andrews of Harrison who is a student at the University of Wyoming; a half sister, Mrs. Wm. Wickersham, north of Harrison.

At the Herald's press time Wednesday funeral arrangements were awaiting information as to whether Mrs. Killam could get out of Venezuela and if so when she could arrive here. Jay Dee was driven to Lusk Tuesday night by Mr. and Mrs. Steve Christian.

Services for Lloyd Schaefer Held Here Sat.
Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday at the Peet Mortuary for Lloyd Schaefer who died suddenly December 1 of a heart attack. The Rev. Jacob Nein officiated.

Mrs. H.J. Templeton, soloist, sang "We Won't Have To Cross Jordan Alone." A quartet composed of Dan Christian, James Willson, Dale Bardo and Gerald Bardo sang "In The Garden". Mrs. Gerald Bardo was organist.

Pall bearers were: Everett Kilmer, Richard Lenz, Harry Zimmerman, Gene Kane, W. Allen and Hank Montgomery. Honorary bearers were: Roscoe Kilmer, Venus Kilmer, Wm. Bredthauer, Cleve Zimmerman, James Smith, and Paul Heany. Burial was in the Lusk Cemetery.

Lloyd Frederick Schaefer, son of Frederick and Anna Marking Schaefer, was born May 22, 1912, on a ranch ten miles north of Harrison. Here he received his education and training for the work he chose to do. He married Blanche Christian Sanders in 1932 and they were the parents of three children. The family moved to Lusk in 1933. Mr. Schaefer was employed by the Continental Oil Company in Lance Creek for 17 years. In 1949 the family moved to a farm one mile north of Lusk and engaged in the development of an outstanding dairy business.

Out-of-town relatives here for the funeral included: Mr. and Mrs. Don Neil, Albuquerque, N. Mex.; Mr. and Mrs. Harold Killam, Barcelona, Venezuela; Jay Dee Schaefer, Mr. and Mrs. Donald Andrews, and Mr. and Mrs. Steve Christian, Laramie; Mr. and Mrs. William Mecham and Lew Mecham, Dubois; Mrs. Roger Law, Greeley. Many friends and relatives from Harrison were also in attendance.
