Mass Celebrated for Mrs. Hughes

Mass was celebrated Friday morning for Marie Hughes who died April 11 in Thermopolis. The Rev. Msgr. Danial Carrol of Thermopolis presided over the Mass at St. Leo's Catholic Church here and Rosary April 14 at Peet Mortuary Chapel. Mrs. Hughes was a former resident of the Keeline community.

Mrs. Henry Wasserburger Sr., organist, accompanied Mrs. James Willson as she sang "Ave Maria" and "Jesus Keep Me Close To Thee".

Casket bearers were Miles Hughes, Walter Hughes, Elmer Johnson, Edward Hughes, Bill Foy and Warren Robertson. Burial was in the Lusk Cemetery.

Marie Louise Hughes was born Sept. 27, 1892, at Elm Creek, Neb. the daughter of John H. and Mary Foy Fahy. She homesteaded in the Keeline area in the early 1900's, and taught school for several years in the Flattop community. June 15, 1919, she and Kenneth Wilkins Hughes were married at Flattop. He preceded her in death in October 1966.

She is survived by one son, John Harold Hughes of Thermopolis; two daughters, Mrs. Margretta McKenna of Calif. and Mrs. Helen Mae Scheman of Minnesota; three sisters, Anne Starret, Lusk, Helen Beabout of Cheyenne, and Genevieve Whitfield Longmont, Colo.; 13 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
