Emery Zimmerman

Emery Zimmerman, 85, was born Sept. 19, 1916 at the home of his parents Cleve and Mildred Zimmerman at Hat Creek Valley in Sioux County, Neb. He died Oct. 25, 2001, at Ponderosa Villa in Crawford, Neb.

He attended the Bodarc School and graduated from Sioux County High School in 1936. He married Marcella Edgell on June 15, 1940, at the Methodist Parsonage in Chadron, Neb.

The couple rented his uncle's place in the valley and later purchased it, remaining there for 43 years before moving to Harrison in 1983 as Emery's health declined. Emery loved the ranch in the valley where he and Marcella raised three children, Julie, David and Michael. Emery's family always came first.

His interests included playing cards, square dancing, fishing and just "visiting." Emery was an active member of the community, serving on the boards of the Sioux County Historical Society and the District 6 School and was a member of the Harrison rural fire department.

Survivors include his wife Marcella; his daughter and son-in-law, Julie and Allen Ellicott of Pitts, Ga.; sons Emery David Zimmerman of Pensacola, Fla., and Michael Zimmerman of Harrison, Neb.; sisters Velma of Lusk and Hilda of Buckeye, Ariz.; brother Keith of Harrison; grandson Robert Ellicott and his wife Diane; granddaughters Brenda and Elizabeth; and great-granddaughters Charlotte, Alexis and Corrine.

Emery was preceded in death by his brother Harry, sister Elma and granddaughter Kimberly.

Funeral services were held Tuesday Oct. 30, at 2 p.m. at the United Methodist Church of Harrison with Pastor Henrietta Stemley and Reverend Robert Todd officiating.

A memorial has been established for the Harrison Ambulance or the Sioux County Foundation/Library Fund and donations may be sent to Security Bank of Harrison Nebraska.
