Leo "Lee" A. Wood
Leo Wood Dies Sunday; Services Are Held Wed.
Leo A. Wood, 79, of Lingle and formerly of Lusk, died at the Goshen County Memorial Hospital in Torrington Sunday at 5:00 p.m. of a heart condition. Funeral services were held in Lusk Wednesday with burial in the Lusk Cemetery.
Mr. Wood served Niobrara County as Assessor for 12 years. He was first elected in 1934 and was re-elected in 1938 and 1942. Later he operated the Gambles store in Lusk.
Services were held from St. George's Episcopal Church at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday with the Rev. Lamar Speier of All Saints Episcopal Church of Torrington officiating. Mr. Wood had been a member of St. George's but on moving to Lingle transferred his membership to All Saints.
Mrs. Walter Fernau, Mrs. Robert Bramlet, Dr. Richard Collins and Harry Lyon sang "Softly Now The Light of Day" and Mrs. J. P. Watson was organist.
Casket bearers were Harold Gautschi, Walter L. Rymill, Julius Peterson, C. E. Marvin, Roy ZumBrunnen, Gene Bass.
Mr. Wood usually called Lee in Lusk, was born July 5, 1886, the youngest son of John A. and Livone Wood, in Ewing, Nebr. He received his early schooling there and later was graduated from Fremont College, Fremont, Nebr., in business administration.
On November 18, 1908 he and Mary (May) E. Brenton were married in Lincoln, Nebr. They came to Lusk June 1, 1916 where he was first employed in Snyder Mercantile Company and homesteaded in the Royal Valley community. After selling the Gamble Store in 1952 Mr. and Mrs. Wood retired to Lingle.
Mr. Wood was a member of Harmony Masonic Lodge of Lusk and Masonic services were held Wednesday afternoon. He was also a member of the Order of Eastern Star here and a member of the Wyoming Consistory of Cheyenne.
Mr. Wood is survived by his wife, May of Lingle; two sisters, Vina Wood of Ewing, Mrs. Inez Butler of Lincoln, Nebr. and nieces and nephews.
