May E. Wood
May E. Wood was born March 12, 1888 at Neligh, Nebr., the daughter of Thomas and Eliza Brenton. She died May 29, 1983 at her home in Los Angeles, Calif.
She grew up and attended school in Nebraska. On November 18, 1908 she was married to Leo Wood at Lincoln, Nebr. In June 1916 they homesteaded in the Royal Valley Community of Niobrara County. They lived in Lusk for 30 years where she was employed as a bank clerk and her husband was county assessor for 12 years and then operated the Gamble Store. Upon retirement in 1952 they moved to Lingle. Mr. Wood died September 12, 1965 and for the past 15 years Mrs. Wood had spent the winters in California and the summers in Lingle.
She was a member of the Eastern Star, Niobrara Chapter #26 and a member of the Episcopal Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, six sisters, and one brother. She is survived by two brothers-in-law, William J. Ecklund and Ed Kempster; many nephews, nieces and other relative and friends.
Services were June 8, 1983 at Peet Mortuary Chapel at 10 a.m. with Rev. Frank Blish officiating. Organist was Minerva Watson.
Pallbearers were Gene Bass Jr., Martin Glandt, Gene Bass, Gene Tyrrel, Julius Peterson and Ted Jones.
Interment was in Lusk Cemetery.
Arrangements were made by the Peet Mortuary.
