Ellen Carol Benshoof Wade

Ellen Carol Benshoof Wade died Nov. 29, 2003.

Ellen Carol Benshoof was born on the family ranch, at Prairie Center, Wyo., June 26, 1933, the youngest daughter of Harry Benshoof and Gertrude Wilson Benshoof. She spent her childhood on the Benshoof homestead and was educated through the tenth grade at the Prairie Center schoolhouse. She boarded in town to attend Torrington High School and graduated in 1951.

She met Everett McKinley "Jack" Wade, Jr., and on April 21, 1951 they were married in Torrington. They made their first home at the Badger Ranch west of Jay Em. After living at Riverton, Douglas and Denver, they moved their family back to the Benshoof Ranch.

Ellen spent her time raising her family and working on the ranch, and spent several years as a 4-H leader. She was active in the Jay Em church until she and Jack sold the ranch in 1992 and moved to Torrington. While she lived in town, she enjoyed working at various part-time jobs. Ellen was very generous in serving her church with her time and labor and found a loving community of Christian friends at Riverside Church of Christ.

Ellen was a student of life and loved to read, study and discuss various topics with her children and friends. She was well known for being thrifty and could make a little bit of something go a very long way. Ellen was very proud of her children and was grateful to the end for all the blessings in her life.

She is survived by her husband of 52 years, Everett; two daughters, Beverly Harmon of Portland, Ore., Jeanine Wade of Otis Orchards, Wash.; three sons, Michael Wade of Big Piney, Wyo.; Patrick Wade of Lusk, and Shawn Wade of Torrington; six grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and one brother, Darrel Benshoof of Etna, Wyo.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and a sister, Marion Schnackenberg.

Memorials may be made to Riverside Church of Christ, Torrington, Wyo.
