Joseph Vondra Dies In Lusk Saturday

Joseph Vondra, 93, died at the Spencer Hospital Saturday morning of a broken hip and complications of old age. Mr. Vondra had been hospitalized January 9 after a fall.

Funeral services were held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday at the Peet Mortuary with Richard Scott of the Church of Christ officiating.

Mr. and Mrs. Dave Wood and Mr. and Mrs. Al Davenport sang "The Old Rugged Cross" and "Going Down the Valley." Mrs. J. P. Watson was organist. Pallbearers were grandsons: Richard Vondra, Kenneth Vondra, Donald Vondra, Vern Vondra, Joe Detimore, William Pierce and Joe Vondra.

Graveside services were held in the Casper Cemetery.

Joseph Vondra was born in Czechoslovakia January 6, 1867 and came to the United States with his parents when he was three years of age. They settled in Saunders County, Nebraska. He married Tiny Flemink at Bruno, Nebr., December 1891 and they were the parents of seven children. In 1898 they went by covered wagon to Tabor, Minn. returning in 1908 to Seward, Nebr. He filed on a homestead southwest of Van Tassell and moved his family there in 1914, enduring the hardships of the early pioneers.

Mr. Vondra was a carpenter by trade. He moved his family to Casper in 1921 and made his home there until 1957 when he came to Lusk to make his home with his son Otto. He was very alert and active for his age until a fall earlier this month.

Survivors include three daughters, Mrs. Anne Detimore, Fresno, Calif.; Mrs. Helen Pierce and Mrs. T. D. Fiddes both of Casper; three sons, James L., Torrington; Edward, Casper; and Otto of Lusk; 26 grandchildren and 54 great grandchildren.
