Frank R. Burnaugh

Services for Frank R. Burnaugh were held at Peet Mortuary Chapel in Lusk on Monday, February 18.

Frank Roy Burnaugh was born to Marjorie Sturman Burnaugh and Joseph Hayes Burnaugh on June 6, 1918 at Lusk. He died at Bakersfield, California Feb. 13, 1985.

Frank was a graduate of Lusk High School with the class of 1936.

In High School he was an outstanding athlete, lettering in 4 sports. His interest in sports continued throughout his life. He played Town Team Basketball in Harrison for many years and baseball as well.

Upon graduation he worked in the oil fields in Wyoming and in the midwestern and southern states.

During World War II he served in the European Theater of Operations, attaining the rank of Master Sergeant.

Returning to the Lusk area he worked as a ranch foreman and as Deputy County Clerk and Clerk of District Court of Sioux County, Nebr.

In 1952 the family moved to California where he became a Drilling Superintendent of Coastal Drilling and R. W. Montgomery Drilling Co. He brought in the first gas discovery in Alaska.

He was a member of the VFW Post of Harrison, Nebr. and the Elks Lodge of Lusk.

For several summers, since 1977, he and his wife spent summers in Lusk where they have a home.

He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Maxine of Bakersfield, Calif.; a son, Michael of Atlanta, Ga.; a daughter, Sheila Murphy of Fresno, Calif.; and a son Frank Neil of Bakersfield, Calif. and eight grandchildren.

Officiating at the services was Rev. Roy Howell.

Minerva Watson played the organ and Mark Lohr sang "How Great Thou Art" and "Beyond the Sunset."

Active pallbearers were Robert Templeton, Terry Larson, Noal Larson, John Jassman, Gene Bass and Mark Sturman.

Interment was in the Lusk Cemetery.

Arrangements were by Peet Mortuary.
