Valentine Dies

Service for James Otto Valentine, 63, was held Monday at the Wheatland Methodist Church with the Rev. Victor Berg of the Church of the Nazarene officiating.

Valentine died Aug. 25 at the Platte County Memorial Hospital.

He was born Feb. 21, 1914 at Manville the son of James V. and Tessie Valentine.

Valentine farmed in the Shawnee area and moved to Wheatland in 1946 where he continued farming for a number of years. In 1960 he established the Valentine Insurance Agency. He had been state insurance agent for the Wyoming Grange.

Survivors include his wife, a son and daughter and his mother all of Wheatland.

Funeral services for James Otis Valentine, 63, were held Monday, August 29, 1977, at the Methodist Church, at 10:30 a.m. with Pastor Victor Berg of the Church of the Nazarene officiating. Interment was at the Wheatland Cemetery.

Mr. Valentine died Thursday, August 25, at the Platte County Memorial Hospital. He was born February 21, 1914, in Manville. He was raised in the Manville area and came to Wheatland in 1936. He met and married Hazel Lucille Curtis on September 13, 1937 in Bertha, Colorado. They moved back to Shawnee. He farmed there for awhile. In 1946 he moved to Wheatland where he has farmed and ranched ever since. He started the Valentine Insurance Agency in 1960, which he has operated until the time of his death. When he first started in insurance, he traveled Wyoming in the capacity of State Insurance Agent for the Grange. Mr. Valentine was a member of the Antelope Gap Grange, Wyoming State Grange, and the National Grange. he was also a member of the church of the Nazarene.

Mr. Valentine is survived by his wife Lucille Valentine of Wheatland, one son, Glen Valentine of Wheatland, one daughter, Wyoma Baker of Wheatland; his mother, Tessie Valentine of Wheatland; and five grandchildren. One infant brother preceded him in death.

Serving as pallbearers were Hugh Jenkins, Willard Weber, Earl Emrick, Dick Johnson, John Thalken and Don Hessing. A memorial has been established to the Antelope Gap Grange.
