Thomas Upton Dies Fri; Funeral Mon.

Thomas N. Upton, 68, husband of Mrs. Maude Upton of Lusk, died Friday at the State Hospital at Evanston from complications of a chronic ailment. Funeral services were held Monday at 10:00 a.m. from Peet Chapel with Rev. Jacob Nein officiating. Burial was in the Lusk Cemetery.

A male quartet composed of Gerald Bardo, Dale M. Bardo, Rex Yocum, and Lee Johnsonbaugh sang "Beyond the Sunset" and "Jesus Savior Pilot Me." Mrs. Gerald Bardo was organist.

Pallbearers were Lou Bass, Charles Bass, Cecil Pugsley, Kermit Brown, Ray McIver and Temple Barnette.

Thomas Nela Upton, son of Hiram and Olive Upton, was born June 4, 1889 near Colby, Kan., where he spent his boyhood days. When 12, he became a member of the Methodist Church of Colby.

February 14, 1912 he and Maude Allen were married. They were the parents of two children, Mrs. Eugene Tyrrel of Lusk and Lawrence Upton of Cheyenne.

He with his family moved to Wyoming and homesteaded west of Jay Em in 1916. In 1937 he and Mrs. Upton moved to Torrington where they operated a furniture business for several years. Failing health forced them to sell after which they lived for a time in California and Idaho. They later returned to Wyoming and operated a furniture store in Wheatland where they were living at the time he was taken seriously ill. He was a member of the First Congregational Church of Lusk at the time of his death.

Survivors include his wife; one daughter, one son, four sisters; Mrs. Anna Croco, Topeka, Kan.; Mrs. Nellie Hunt, Edison, Nebr.; Mrs. Esther Engle, Wichita, Kan.; Mrs. Nina Kugler, Ringgold, Nebr.; three brothers; Lawrence Upton, Topeka, Kan.; Ralph Upton, Lincoln, Nebr.; Harold Upton, Glenrock. Eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild also survive. His parents and two brothers, Roy and Robert previously died.

Out-of-town relatives and friends here for the services were Mr. and Mrs. Ray McIver, Mrs. Frank Canady, Mrs. Floyd Davis, Torrington; Mr. and Mrs. Tom Foster, Sunrise; Mrs. John Croco and Mrs. and Mrs. Lawrence Upton, Topeka, Kan.; Mrs. Ernest Hunt, Edison, Nebr.; Mr. and Mrs. Forrest Kugler, Ringgold, Nebr.; Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Upton and family and Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Upton; Cheyenne; Mrs. Bob Engle, Wichita, Kan.; Mr. and Mrs. Howard Allen and daughter, Bridgeport, Nebr.; Mr. and Mrs. Ethan Allen of Riverton.
