Accident Claims Lance Creek Man

A Lance Creek man died in a one-vehicle rollover 8 miles east of Lance Creek late Sept. 17.

David W. Townsend, 25, died when his westbound pickup left the right side of the road and rolled over one and a half times, according to the Wyoming Highway Patrol. The pickup caught fire and was engulfed in flames. It was not known whether Townsend was wearing a seat belt. He was not ejected from the pickup.

David Weston Townsend of Lance Creek died near his home Sept. 17, 1985, following an automobile accident. He was 25.

Mr. Weston was born June 4, 1960, in Newcastle. From the age of two, he lived with his grandmother, Ruby Townsend, and aunt, Lois Townsend. He attended Rapid City, S.D., public schools through his sophomore year and was graduated from Newcastle High School in 1978. He received a certificate in welding from the Certified Welding and Trade School of Wyoming in Casper.

He married Brenda Rose Marchant in Newcastle Oct. 4, 1980. They lived in Lance Creek, where both were employed by the Johnson JA6 Ranch.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Neil and Rudy Townsend and Richard and Eva Updike.

He is survived by his wife, Brenda: daughters, Brandy Kay and Misty Jo, all of Lance Creek; his mother, Evelyn Garhart of Fort Laramie; his father, Bob Townsend of Newcastle; two sisters, Tina Brooks of Fort Laramie and Emily Hill of Fort Pierre, S.D.; a brother, Richard Townsend of Newcastle; two half-sisters, Penny Clark of Wheatland and Jody Townsend of Newcastle; three step brothers, four step sisters; an aunt, Lois Townsend of Rapid City; an uncle, Glen Townsend of Spokane, Wash., and numerous other relatives.

Funeral services were held Saturday, Sept. 21, at the United Methodist Church in Newcastle. The Rev John Olenyik officiated. Burial was in Greenwood Cemetery, Newcastle.

A memorial fund has been established at Lusk State Bank.
