Irene Orr Stiles

Irene Orr Stiles, age 88, died December 31, 1993 in Renton, Wash. A memorial service was held on January 4, at St. Andrews Presbyterian Church of Renton, Wash., of which she was a member.

Mrs. Stiles was born in Winona, Minn. on August 16, 1905.

She taught school in North Dakota, Montana and in Crook and Hot Springs Counties in Wyoming from 1923 to 1933.

She married Henry Stiles on May 25, 1923.

From September 1933 to January 1984, they lived in Niobrara County, first in Lance Creek and later in Lusk.

Irene taught at Lance Creek and Lusk Jr. High from 1943 to 1965. Her last two years of teaching were in the Moore Springs School in Goshen County.

Irene started a Sunday School at Lance Creek which later became Lance Creek Community Church. She and Henry were also members of the Congregational Church in Lusk while they lived there, until moving to Renton, Wash.

She was a 50-year member of the Order of the Eastern Star; first in Manville, Wyo. then Lusk, Wyo. and Douglas, Wyo.

Irene was a graduate of the University of Wyoming and was involved in the Niobrara County Historical Society. She also was the County Chairman of the Bicentennial celebration in 1976.

Survivors include daughter and husband, Kay and Bob Newell, Renton, Wash.; and son and wife, John and Betty Stiles, Findlay, Ohio; and five grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.

Memorials can be made to the University of Wyoming Foundation, Laramie, Wyo. for a scholarship in the College of Education or to the charity of your choice.
