William Speerly

William Speerly, long time area resident, died at the veteran's hospital in Hot Springs, S.D., January 11 and funeral service was held January 14 at Peet Mortuary Chapel. Officiating at the service was the Rev. Frank Bozart and American Legion, Wieten-Dupes Post 4.

William Speerly was born December 4, 1893, at Morton, Ill., the son of Conrad and Rosine Corrodi Speerly. The youngest of eight children, he moved with his family to New Jersey at an early age. They later moved back to Illinois where William entered the carpentry trade. He was inducted into the army in 1917 and served with the A.E.F. in France. Discharged in 1919, he came to Wyoming in 1921 to homestead in the Rawhide Butte area. On July 23, 1924, he and Marie Roesti were married. They moved to her homestead about 1926 and to his present Node area Ranch in 1933.

He was a member of the American Legion for 63 years and was a member of the Farm Bureau for many years. He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, and his brothers and sisters. He is survived by a son Edward and a daughter, Rose, both of Node.

Music during the service was by organist Edna DeCastro and Mark Lohr who sang "How Great Thou Art" and "Beyond the Sunset." Active pallbearers were Malter Larson, Joe Bruch, Larry Lund, Fred Bruegger, Ralph Sides and Pete Germann.

Interment was in the Lusk Cemetery. Memorial may be sent to the Niobrara Memorial Nursing Home.
