Carl V. Soderberg, 81, of Jay Em passed away Tuesday December 16, 1997 at the Community Hospital in Torrington. A funeral was held at 10:00 a.m. Mon. Dec. 22, 1997 at the Niobrara County Fairgrounds Auditorium in Lusk. Interment was in Grandview Cemetery at Fort Collins, Colo. on Tuesday.
Carl was born September 22, 1916 in the family ranch home at Stout, Colorado to John and Wilhelmina Soderberg. He attended school at Stout. He ranched with his brothers, John, Harry and Paul at Masonville, Colorado until 1978 when they moved to Jay Em.
In 1940 he married Millie Chambers of Walden, Colo. to this union two children were born, James and Carol. Millie and the children were killed in a car accident on May 4, 1945.
On Dec. 22, 1947 he and Marjorie (Jo) McKiney were married in Raton, N. M. They enjoyed many years of ranching while raising their three daughters, Vicki, Donna and Linda, before Jo passed away on Oct.12, 1975.
He met Pauline Wallis of Lavina, Montana and married her on August 20, 1986. They returned to live at the ranch at Jay Em.
He is survived by his wife Pauline; daughter Vicki and son-in-law Chuck Mishler of Mitchell, Nebraska; daughter Donna and son-in-law Dave Wisseman of Jay Em; daughter Linda Noe of Jay Em; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; four brothers John and Ralph of Ft. Collins, Colorado and Harry and Paul of Jay Em; one sister Dorothy Cole of Longview, Texas; brother-in-law Loren McKiney of Wetmore, Colo.; sister-in-law Evelyn "Jackie" Madden of Portland, Oregon; numerous nieces and nephews; a special friend Richard Sampers and Pauline's five children and their families.
He was preceded in death by his two wives, Jo and Millie, two children, two sisters, three brothers and his parents.
For those who wish, memorials to the History Center in Lingle, the Niobrara County Historical Society or to the Niobrara County Library will be appreciated by the family.
Bader Funeral Home of Lusk is in charge of arrangements.
