Memorial services for former Lusk resident, Lennea Slagle were held in Lander, Dec. 11, 2002.

Lennea Slagle died Dec. 1, 2002 at her Green Valley, Ariz. home.

She was born in Lexington, Ky., on Sept. 22, 1938, to Everett Lewis and Ione (Bigelow) Lewis Hruza.

Following the death of her father in 1942, she returned with her mother, brother and sister to Harrison, Neb. The family then moved to Lusk in 1949 and she graduated in 1956 from Niobrara County High School.

She received her degree as a registered nurse from St. Luke Hospital School of Nursing in Colorado in 1959, the same year she married Jack Ronald Slagle in San Diego.

Following Mr. Slagle's naval discharge the couple returned to Wyoming where Mrs. Slagle worked as an office nurse and hospital staff nurse in Casper, Laramie and Lusk.

After several positions in health care out of state, the family returned to Wyoming in 1975 and Mrs. Slagle was employed as surgical supervisor and director of nursing in Worland. Continuing to serve in health care, she completed her Bachelor of Science in nursing degree and received her Master's degree as a geriatric nurse practitioner. She then joined Dr. Thomas Neithammer as the state's first independent nurse practitioner. Her practice focused on personalized, caring and compassionate health care to Fremont County's elderly.

Family members said Mrs. Slagle dedicated her life to her family and her patients. "Her caring and compassionate nature shone through in all she did and the many lives she touched," a family statement said.

She is survived by her husband, Jack of Green Valley, Ariz.; daughter Kim Dykman of Dalton, Neb.; son Kirk Slagle of Lander; brother Lon Lewis of Topeka, Kan.; sister Leila Norris of Houston, Texas, and eight grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents and one granddaughter.
