Robert Allyn Sides
Funeral services for Robert Allyn Sides, 74, of Manville, were held June 2, 2003, at the Niobrara County Fairgrounds Auditorium, with Pastor Ed Nipper officiating. Interment followed at the Manville Cemetery with military honors.
Robert Sides died May 27, 2003, at Shepherd of the Valley Care Center in Casper.
Bob was born Sept. 28, 1928, to Earl and Florence Fancher Sides at Crawford, Neb. He attended grade school in the Kirtley and Lance Creek areas, and graduated from Manville High School.
He married Mary Ann Vondra on May 24, 1953. They had four children. Bob's pride and joy were his four grandchildren, Beau, Rowdy, Shayla and Jayme.
Bob worked for Continental Oil Company for 25 years. He could have continued with that company, but would have had to uproot his family. Being the man he was, he chose not to do that. The company which took over was more than glad to have a hand like him. He also enjoyed working on his small ranch. He called this his expensive, time consuming hobby.
Bob was known to be ready for a good time wherever he was; he worked as hard as he played. He enjoyed the company of good friends and enjoyed a cool beer. If you didn't like the way he was you might hear, "Frankly my dear, I don't give a damn." He was always willing to give a hand when needed. He was a member of the Lusk Elks Lodge 1797, and a life time member of VFW.
Bob is survived by his wife Mary Ann of Manville; four children, Slug Sides of New Brighton, Penn., Chuck Sides of Dalton, Ga., Vonda Martinez of Newcastle, and Bobbi Sides of Montevideo, Minn.; one brother, Earl Lee Sides of Casper; two sisters, Shirley Martin of Pinedale, Wyo. and Francis Schafer of Wyoming, Wisc.; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and a brother Jimmy Sides.
A memorial has been established to the "Jack Kettler Manville Town Park" for improvements and beautification. Donations may be sent to Lusk State Bank, Box 1400, Lusk, Wyo. 82225.
Cicmanec-Pier Funeral Home in Lusk was in charge of arrangements.
