Stewart Sides, lifelong Niobrara County resident, dies.

Funeral services for Stewart Sides, Jr., 86, were held March 10 at the Niobrara County Fairgrounds in Lusk, Wyo. Officiating was Pastor Gary Walker.

Stewart died March 5 at his home in Casper. He was born September 17, 1912 on a homestead in the Kirtley area of Niobrara County.

He was the seventh child of eleven born to Stewart and Ruby Sides. Stewart attended school in the Kirtley area.

Stewart married Alice Calhoun on March 14, 1936 in Harrisburg, Nebr. To this union was born two children: a daughter, Donna Kay Tschacher of Boise, Idaho and a son, Clayton Sides of Casper, Wyo.

Their home was always home to many nephews, friends and numerous children of the area. They were divorced in 1957 and Stewart later married Wilna Grant on October 6, 1958.

Stewart worked for his dad rounding up and breaking wild horses to be sold to the U.S. Calvary at Ft. Robinson. At one time, the Sides S Lazy S horses numbered up to 1500.

In 1936, Stewart moved to the ranch where he continued to live until his death. He broke and trained horses for enjoyment all of his life. He loved horses, all his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. One great grandchild, Brady J. Thurston, could do no wrong.

Stewart was proud that he was a Wyoming pioneer.

Survivors include a daughter, Donna Kay Tschacher and husband Floyd of Boise, Idaho; son, Clayton Sides and his wife Karen of Casper, Wyo.; two step-daughters, Beverly Miller and husband Pat of Lance Creek, Wyo. and Bernice Lowe of Lusk, Wyo.; ten grandchildren, nineteen great-grandchildren, three sisters, Ida May Gay of Garfield, Ga.; Esther Groves of Lance Creek, Wyo. and Mable Hardman of Casper, Wy.; numerous nieces and nephews.

Stewart was preceded in death by his parents, his second wife Wilna, six brothers; Earl, Clarence, Ralph, Ray, Scott and Harry and one sister, Hazel McCullough.

The family would appreciate memorials to Niobrara County Ambulance Service, Lance Creek Community Church or the Elks Lodge No. 1797.

Interment was in the Lusk Cemetery. Bader Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
