Mary Shepard, Area Resident Since 1913, Dies

Funeral service for Mrs. Melvin (Mary B.) Shepard, 88, was being held today at 2:00 p.m. at the Peet Chapel. Mrs. Shepard died April 9 at the Niobrara Memorial Hospital.

The Rev. Fred Bolinger of the Baptist Church is officiating at the service with soloist Russell Olmsted singing "The Lord Is My Shepherd" and "How Great Thou Art." Organist is Mrs. Judson P. Watson.

Casket bearers are Henry Klemke, Joe Klemke, Pete Germann, Albert Ruffing, Johnnie Thon and Paul Heany. Burial is at the Lusk Cemetery.

Mary B. Swaim was born May 4, 1883, at Unionville, Iowa, the daughter of Levi and Matilda Boyer Swaim. She came to Lusk in 1913 and a few years later homesteaded on Doggie Creek. She was married to Emil Wills who died in 1922 and later married Frank Wilson who died in 1949. She married Melvin D. Shepard in 1953.

She is survived by her husband, Melvin, three sisters Mrs. Emma Tadlock of Centerville, Iowa, Mrs. Rosa Ogden Sedro, Wooley, Wash. and Mrs. Grace Main of Alexandria, Va. She is also survived by one brother Austin Swaim of Ottumwa, Iowa. Five brothers and one sister, Mrs. Julius Schley died previously.
