Last Rites Held December 22 for Thomas Siefert
Funeral services for Tom Seifert, long-time resident of Sioux County who died December 19, were held at the Methodist Memorial Church in Harrison last Wednesday, Dec. 22, with the Rev. James Keith of Harrison and the Rev. Victor Ireland of Burwell officiating. Burial was in the Harrison Cemetery.
Music was provided by Mrs. Bill Coffee, Harrison, singing "The Lord Is My Shepherd" and by Miss Cleone Hoyda of Crawford singing "Take My Hand Precious Lord" and "I Saw A Man." Mrs. Floyd Hall was organist.
Pall bearers were William Baker, Sr., Harold Wilson, Clarence West, Melvin Grote, George Hoyda, and Rudy Hartman. Honorary pall bearers were Paul Geike, Paul Holtz, William Grote, Adolph Zurcher, Luther Koch, Tress Powell, Vern Marsteller, George Wickersham, John Marking, and Floyd Hall.
Thomas R. Seifert, was born in Elnora, Inc., Nov. 5, 1888, the son of Jacob and Jemima Seifert. As a youth, Tom joined the First Christian Church of Elnora, Ind. and in later years transferred to the Methodist Church in Harrison.
Tom (as he was known) came to Harrison in 1908, and was united in marriage to Gertrude A. Noreisch on August 22, 1909. To them were born Gertrude, Bud, Marie, Lloyd, Grace, Grant, and 2 infants stillborn.
Tom was employed by the railroad for two years after their marriage, at Chadron and Grand Island. They returned to Harrison for two years before homesteading in Wyoming. From the homestead they returned to Harrison, where they lived until 1925. In 1925 the family moved to Midwest, Wyo., where they resided until 1929. In 1937 they moved to Prairie Dog Canyon where they resided until retiring in Harrison.
Surviving are his widow, three daughters, Mrs. John (Gertrude) West of Benedict, Nebr., Mrs. Oliver (Marie) Dunlap of Scottsbluff, Mrs. Chester (Grace) Dunlap of Harrison; two sons, Bertrand (Bud) of Bozeman, Mont., and Vernon Grant of Kimball, Nebr.; 17 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren.
Tom was preceded in death by two sons, one daughter, his parents, and 10 sisters and brothers. He was the last member of his family.
