Last Rites June 14 for Mrs. Backhaus
Funeral services were held for Mrs. Etta Christine Backhaus at the Colyer Funeral Home in Torrington at 2:00 p.m. June 14 with the Rev. Roy Newer officiating. Burial was in the Valley View Cemetery.
Etta Christine Scott daughter of Jacob and Anna Adamson Scott, was born December 15, 1893 at North Platte, Nebr. She married John Backhaus at Lexington, Nebr. in August of 1911. The couple homesteaded in the Burge Community in 1913, making their home there until 12 years ago when they moved to Torrington. Mrs. Backhaus had made her home in Lusk with her son John Backhaus, for the past year and a half. She was a member of the Baptist Church.
Survivors include three sons, John of Lusk, James of Tripoli, Lybia, Earl of Grand Junction, Colo.; a daughter Mrs. Betty Randall, Limon, Colo.; two sisters, Mrs. Nellie Davidson, North Platte, and Mrs. Fannie Phillips, Cozad, Nebr.; a brother, Dan Scott, Cheyenne; 13 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Her husband died in 1933. One daughter also died.
