Last Rites Held for Amanda Scott

Funeral services for Mrs. Amanda Josephine Scott, 85, of Manville were held April 5 in the Peet Chapel. Mrs. Scott had died in her home April 2 from infirmities of old age.

The Rev. Leroy Kellerman, pastor of St. Paul's Lutheran Church officiated at the 2:00 p.m. services.

Pallbearers were Pete Owens, Leo Heins, Edwin Tschacher, Bill Bredthauer, O.M. Rasmusen and Lloyd Tschacher.

The organist was Mrs. Edward Poser. Mrs. Poser and Mrs. Aaron Frye sang "Rock of Ages" and "I'm But a Stranger Here." Burial was made in the Torrington cemetery.

Amanda Josephine Wyberg was born in Kiel, Germany May 21, 1877. She was the daughter of John and Christina Wyberg. At the age of two she came to the United States.

When she was five years old, her mother died and she was raised by her aunt and uncle, Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Young, of Chicago, and was accepted as one of the family.

Before her marriage she was head dressmaker in the Charles Stevens store in Chicago. November 17, 1900 she was married to Carl Fogelstrom in Phoenix, Arizona. After his death, seven weeks later, she returned to Chicago and opened her own dressmaking establishment, hiring nine girls.

June 15, 1904 she was married to David Lighty, a merchant in Oneida, Iowa. Two years later he became an invalid; and until his death in Edgewood, Iowa in 1937, she again plied her needle, supporting herself, her husband and her daughter.

August 10, 1940 she married Niles Wadsworth, and lived in Grand Rapids, Mich. until his death in 1950. Here again, she worked in the fur department of Herpelsheimer's Department Store.

From September 1950 until October 1952, she made her home with her daughter in Laramie, Wyo.

October 19, 1952 she married L.D. Scott of Griggsville, Ill. and made her home there until his death in February 1956.

Since then she has made her home in Manville with her daughter, Mrs. George Mundschenk.

She was a member of the St. Paul Lutheran Church and the Manville Homemakers.

Surviving are her daughter and son-in-law, Doris and George Mundschenk; four grandchildren; seven step-grandchildren; and 33 great grandchildren; also three cousins who were raised as sisters, Mrs. Jeanette Hoag of Ann Arbor, Michigan; Mrs. Yarda Anderson, of St. Petersburg, Florida; and Mrs. Alice Walker of Chicago.
