Thelma Irene Lynn Scott

Mrs. Robert (Thelma) Scott, 57, who has served as the Hat Creek Correspondent for The Lusk Herald since 1948 was found dead at her ranch home last Thursday by her husband.

Funeral service for Mrs. Scott was held at the Baptist Church Monday at 2:00 p.m. with the Rev. Fred Bolinger and the Rev. Delbert Dick of Wheatland officiating. Peet Mortuary was in charge of arrangements.

Organist was Mrs. A.F. DeCastro. The First Baptist Church Choir sang "Beyond the Sunset" and "The Unclouded Day."

Honorary pall bearers were Lue Osborn, John Goddard, Gaylord Anderson, George Mill, Ed Cook and Joe Klemke.

Casket bearers were Rod Geisinger, Alfred Ward, Kenneth F. Freeman, Burr Bryant, Raymond Mayhan and Cody Clark.

Thelma Irene Lynn, daughter of Lewis and Faye Lynn, was born in Northern Goshen County September 21, 1916. She received her education in the Lusk Schools and was graduated from Lusk High School in 1934. She married Robert Scott September 22, 1934, at Hot Springs, S.D.

Mrs. Scott was a member of the Baptist Church. In 1950 she helped organize the Pioneer Union Sunday School and served as assistant superintendent and taught the pre-school class. She later served as Sunday School superintendent. She was a Charter member of the Lusk B.P.O. Does Lodge No. 64 and a member of Heifer Hoofers of Grand Lodge. In the local lodge she served in several offices including the presidency and for five years as secretary.

In January 1950 she was the first woman member of the Civil Air Patrol and was public information officer and observer for several years. She was the radio operator for this area and was also a member of the Ground Observer Corps while it was in existence.

She was a member of the Hat Creek Ladies Club since 1950 serving as reporter many years and club president in 1952.

Mrs. Scott in addition to her many other activities gave a great deal of time to her community neighbors and did a service for both the Lusk Free Lance and the Lusk Herald by serving as correspondent for many years. She was also reporter for the North Country News from 1941 to 1944.

In 1968 she helped organize the Hat Creek Sunday School and was the first adult teacher and was superintendent in 1971-1972.

Survivors include her husband; three sons, Richard of Tucson, Ariz., Robert of Scottsbluff, Neb., and Roger stationed with the Air Force at Albuquerque, N.M.; two brothers: Lewis M. Lynn, Ogallala, Neb., and Dale M. Lynn of Marcus, Iowa; and ten grandchildren. Her parents and one daughter Arlene Mae died previously.

A memorial has been established for the Niobrara County Historical Society.
