Maude Theresa Schroefel

Maude Schroefel, daughter of Keeline homesteaders and a long-time Niobrara resident, died Friday at the Niobrara Nursing Home. Memorial service was conducted Monday at Peet Mortuary Chapel.

Maude Theresa Schroefel was born November 5, 1891, at Mount Vernon, Ill., the daughter of John and Jennie Ryan. She came to Wyoming in 1908 when her parents homesteaded in the Keeline area. She attended Jireh College before moving to Lusk in 1912 to work at the Northwestern Hotel and for Mrs. Lusk. Then she was employed at the La Bonte Hotel in Douglas. On July 6, 1914, she married Charles Schroefel in Douglas. They lived on the ranch north of Lusk until 1974 when she moved to Lusk. In November of 1981 Mrs. Schroefel moved into the Nursing Home.

The Rev. Frank Blish officiated at the July 19 memorial service. Providing music were Edna DeCastro, organist, and Mark Lohr who sang "In The Garden" and "Rock of Ages."

Burial was in the Lusk Cemetery. Pallbearers were Lloyd Coleman, Joe Andrews, Richard Lenz, Jack Larson, Joe Klemke and Leslie ZumBrunnen.

Memorials were established to the Niobrara Nursing Home.

Mrs. Schroefel is survived by her daughter Frances Wahl of Lusk. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, a son, two daughters and one brother.
