Maxine Elizabeth Scheuerman

Our dear Mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, sister and friend is now in God's memory.

Maxine, 90, passed away peacefully on April 11, 2005 at the Horizon Hospice Home in Billings Montana. Born July 9, 1914, to Lewis and Vena Burkholder, Maxine Elizabeth was the youngest of twin girls. Her family resided seven miles southwest of Keeline until the family moved to Lusk when she was eight. In 1933, she graduated from Lusk High School.

Maxine married William Jassman on Feb. 10, 1934. They worked on the Jassman family homestead northeast of Lusk, and raised three children: Robert, Richard and Carol. William's declining health caused them to move back to Lusk, where she took care of William until his death in 1963. Maxine then moved to California. She became a licensed practical nurse, while at the same time caring for her aging mother. In 1970, she met and married William Owen James.

After his untimely death in 1972, she met a dancing farmer by the name of Henry Scheuerman in 1974. Three weeks later, on Nov. 11, they were wed until Henry's death in 1991.

Maxine remained in Worland until 2002 when she moved to Columbus, Mont. with her daughter & son in law. She resided there until her death.

Maxine was preceded in death by her parents, husbands, her brothers, Harold, Merle and Ervin Burkholder; sister, Neva & Dorotha Burkholder, Bernita Smith; her son, Robert Jassman and great-granddaughter, Breyden Hales.

Surviving Maxine are her son, Richard Jassman of Lusk; daughter, Carol Cowger, of Columbus, Mont.; stepsons, William James of Baker, Mont., Michael Scheuerman of Beaverton, Ore., Stuart Scheuerman of Sumner, Wash., Homer Scheuerman of Casper, and Aaron Scheuerman of Cupertino, Calif.; step-daughter, Pat Scheuerman of Casper; sisters, Evelyn Engdahl of Casper, Irene Ruffing of Worland, Thelma Miceli of Fresno, Calif.; brothers, Richard Burkholder of Olympia, Wash., Neal Burkholder of Calgary Alberta Canada; and 10 grandchildren 15 step-grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, five step-great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.

Graveside services for Maxine will be held in Lusk on April 24 at 2 p.m.

Note: In the Lusk Cemetery records, Maxine in listed under Jassman, as she is buried next to her first husband.
