Virgil Scadden, Former Lusk Resident, Dies in Stanberry, Missouri

Virgil Scadden, formerly of this city, who had for the past eight years owned and operated a drug store in Stanberry, Mo., succumbed to a heart attack at 6:00 p.m., Tuesday, February 15th, in the St. Francis hospital of Maryville, Mo. where he had been taken that morning after suffering the attack at his home. Funeral services were held Friday afternoon from the Methodist church in Stanberry with interment in the Grant City, Mo., cemetery.

Virgil V. Scadden was born in Grant City, Missouri and spent his early life there. He is a son of Mr. and Mrs. J. Dallas Scadden and was 47 years old at the time of his demise. He was reared in the Baptist faith and had attended that church much of his life.

He was married to Miss Arlene Garbert August 6, 1931. The first five years of their married life were spent in the Grant City. They later lived in Denver, Colo. where he attended and was graduated from the Capital College of Pharmacy, and then came to Wyoming. While living in Lusk, he was employed in the Rogers drug store that is now known as the Scriven drug store.

Prior to going to Stanberry eight years ago, he had owned and operated a drug store on Ashland Avenue in St. Joseph, Mo., and had been in the drug business in Nevada, Mo., before going to St. Joseph. Two years ago he had constructed the modern building on Park street which houses his business.

He is a past president of the Stanberry Golf club, Luncheon, club, Missouri Pharmaceutical assn., National Retail Druggists assn., and was licensed to practice his profession in both Missouri and Wyoming.

Survivors include his wife, Arlene, two daughters, Miss Mona Kay and Nancy Jo, of the home, his father, John D. Scadden, Grant City, Mo., three sisters, Mrs. Mamie Wiley and Mrs. Goldie McClellan, Grant City, Mo., and Mrs. Gertrude Harvey, St. Joseph, Mo. The deceased in a brother-in-law of Mrs. Robert Wolfe of Jay Em.

Funeral Services Held For Virgil Scadden

Funeral services for Virgil V. Scadden, 47, of Stanberry, Mo., and a former resident of Lusk, were held Friday afternoon at the Methodist Church in Stanberry with the Rev. Bob Beesley officiating. Burial was in the Grant city cemetery under the direction of the Johnson Funeral Home. Stanberry business houses were closed during the services.

Virgil V. Scadden was born in Grant City, Mo., the son of Mr. and Mrs. Dallas Scadden, and spent his early life there. He died of a heart attack February 22.

He was married to Miss Arlene Gabbert August 6, 1931. Five years after their marriage they moved to Lusk, where Mr. Scadden was employed in the Rogers drug store, now Scriven's, during the 1930's. Afterwards he attended and was graduated from the Capital College of Pharmacy in Denver.

He has owned and operated the Scadden Pharmacy in Stanberry for the past eight years and has been very active in the community life.

He is survived by his wife and two daughters, Mona Kay and Nancy Jo, at home; his father, two brothers and three sisters.

Mr. and Mrs. Robert Wolfe of Jay Em attended the funeral. Mrs. Wolfe is a sister of Mrs. Scadden.
