Mrs. Roberts, Pioneer Resident, Dies Friday
Mrs. Walton G. Roberts, 90, first teacher in the Hat Creek locality, died in Lincoln, Nebr. Friday. Mrs. Roberts, who will be remembered here as Mrs. John Storrie, had been in ill health for some time.
Funeral services were held in Lincoln, Monday.
Mary L. Pease, daughter of Walter D. and Lucy Notware Pease, was born in Cheyenne October 16, 1869. She attended the old Central School in Cheyenne and later, Denver University. In 1887 she was employed to teach school near the O. W. Ranch at Hat Creek. This place at that time was still in Laramie County. She married John Storrie August 27, 1889. Mr. Storrie at that time was the owner of the Hat Creek Ranch, located on the Old Deadwood Stagecoach Trail, about half way between Cheyenne and Deadwood. Here Mrs. Storrie dispensed hospitality at the old stage coach station and Mr. Storrie served as postmaster. They moved to Douglas in 1890 where their son Walter was born. They continued to live in Douglas until Mr. Storrie's death in 1915.
She married Mr. Roberts in 1938 and has resided since in Lincoln except for a short time spent in Denver. She was an aunt of Mrs. Mae Fields.
