Emma Howard Richardson

Emma Howard Richardson, 84, died in Lusk Sept. 22 after a lingering illness. She was born in Fairfield, Neb. Nov. 21, 1908, and moved to Manville with her parents in 1917. Emma was preceded in death by four brothers - Ralph, Ransom, Ross, Robert and one sister, Edna H. DeCastro of Lusk.

She graduated from high school in 1926 and attended the University of Nebraska. After teaching in several rural schools, she taught third and fourth grades in Manville.

In 1932 she married Dan W. Richardson. To this union was born one daughter, Janet J. Richardson of Denver, Colo.

During World War II she worked in the Sail Loft of the Navy Shipyards in Bremerton, Wash. For several years she owned and operated a variety store in Lingle. After the demise of her parents, Harry Detos and Neletta Ellida Pettet Howard, she moved to Cheyenne to become house mother at the YWCA. Subsequently, she made her home with Mr. and Mrs. Ross Howard at Cheyenne, working at various times as a personal care attendant in homes where such services were needed.

She is survived by daughter, Janet J. Richardson, Denver, Colo.; sister, Erma H. Keenan, Pine Bluffs, Wyo., sister-in law, Mrs. Ross V. Howard (Edith K. Howard); two nieces; eight nephews; 27 grand nieces and nephews.

Graveside services were conducted at Dellview Cemetery, Manville, Monday Sept. 27, 1993, with the eulogy given by her nephew, Dr. Stanley M. Howard, Professor of Metallurgical Engineering, South Dakota School of Mines. The Rev. Del Cowley of the First Baptist Church of Lusk, conducted the religious services.
