Funeral for Jesse Rice Held Friday

Funeral services were held from the Peet Chapel Friday at 2:00 for Jesse Rice, 83, who died last Wednesday at the Niobrara Memorial Hospital.

The Rev. C. W. Jervis of the First Baptist Church officiated. Mrs. A. B. DeCastro was organist and she accompanied Mrs. Emerson Bonner and Mrs. Lyle Eddy who sang "Sweet Hour of Prayer" and "Ivory Palaces."

Pallbearers were Willie Almazan, Earl Quigley, Lyle Fullerton, C. E. Marvin, Gordon Hargraves and L. T. Bonner.

Jesse Leon Rice, son of Henry R. and Annetta C. Rice was born at Pleasanton, Kan. He married Almira G. Kincaid, Dec. 24, 1900 at Ft. Scott, Kan. They were the parents of one daughter.

About 1920 he and his wife moved to Lance Creek, where he worked in the oil field. Later they moved to Lusk where he owned and operated a restaurant for about 8 years. Mr. Rice then became the caretaker of the local cemetery.

For years, until ill health prevented he was an active member of the First Baptist Church.

His wife died previously. Survivors include his daughter, Mrs. Helen Hudson of Lusk, his sister-in-law, Mrs. Blanche Rice of Lusk, and many other relatives.

Jess Rice Dies In Hospital Wed.

Jess Rice, 83, a long-time resident of Lusk and Niobrara County died about noon in the Niobrara Memorial Hospital. He was operated on Tuesday.

At the Herald's presstime Wednesday afternoon funeral services were pending. As soon as arrangements are made notice will be posted on the bulletin board in the Lusk Postoffice.
