Mrs. Ara Gathye Dies Funeral This Wednesday

Funeral Service for Mrs. Ara Belle Gathye was being held Wednesday at 2 p.m. at the Peet Chapel conducted by the Rev. Fred Bolinger. Mrs. Gathye died October 20, at the Niobrara County Memorial Hospital.

Mrs. A. F. DeCastro, organist, was accompanying Susan Baribeau, soloist, singing "The Old Rugged Cross" and "Beyond the Sunset". Burial was to be in the Lusk Cemetery.

Casket bearers were to be Orval Allen, Dave Shepard, Ed Rogina, Mahlon Peterson, Howard Haworth, and Kenneth Seibken.

Ara Belle Gathye was born July 11, 1885, at Harrison, Ark. She was the daughter of Martha and James A. Byrom. She married Alfred Leroy Canfield at Marble City, Ark., in 1910. They moved from Arkansas to David City, Neb. in 1912 and then in 1918 moved to Hay Springs, Neb. In 1919 they moved to a homestead at Lance Creek and in 1920 moved to Sioux County, Neb., and later moved back to Wyoming. Mr. Canfield died on March 26, 1928.

Mrs. Gathye married John Gathye January 5, 1930, and they lived on several farms in Wyoming and Nebraska before settling in Lusk in 1950. Mr. Gathye died February 22, 1954. In 1966 she went to live with her daughter, June Jordan at Miles City, Mont. remaining there until May of 1972 when she returned to Lusk.

Mrs. Gathye is survived by six children, Charles Canfield, Lusk, June Jordan, Miles City, Mont., Etta Belcher, Jackson, Ross Canfield and Gerty Weber, both of Olympia, Wash., and Wilma Rush of Henderson, Iowa. She is also survived by 12 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren. Her parents, husbands and three brothers died previously.
