Mary Anna Lohr Porter

Funeral services for Mary Anna Lohr Porter, 77, of Manville, were held Oct. 25, 2003, at the First Baptist Church of Lusk with Rev. Larry Barlett officiating.

Mary Porter died Oct. 21, 2003, at the Central Wyoming Hospice in Casper, with her daughter Melanie by her side.

Mary Anna Lohr Porter was born Aug. 14, 1926, to Harlan and Ruby (Hanson) Lohr, at the family home in Kirtley, Wyo. Mary attended rural schools in the Kirtley area, and completed her last two years in Lusk. She graduated from Lusk High School in 1944.

Mary taught rural schools in Wyoming, Nebraska and Montana for 25 years. She was a member of the Niobrara County School Board, 1970-79. She was honored by the Alumni Association in 2003 for her years of service to education.

She married Willard Porter on Nov. 25, 1949 in Scottsbluff, Neb. In 1961, Mary and Willard moved to the Lohr Ranch, where they helped operate the family ranch. They left the ranch and moved to Manville in 1991.

They were blessed with the adoption of their daughter, Melanie Dawn in 1963.

Mary was involved in the 4-H program for many years as a leader. She enjoyed sewing, needle work and arts and crafts.

Mary loved all of her family, especially her grandchildren, Brenna Ann and Seth Michael.

She is survived by her husband Willard, daughter Melanie Burke, and grandchildren Brenna and Seth, all of Manville; two sisters, Edna Kazandjian of Yorba Linda, Calif., and Grace Wilkison of Manville; two brothers; George Lohr of Buckhead, Ga., and John Lohr of Lusk; and her best friend and sister-in-law Dorothy Lohr of Lusk.

She was preceded in death by her parents, a sister Ida, two brothers Gene and Walt, and an infant son.

Memorial can be made to the family for an education fund for Mary's grandchildren, Brenna and Seth.
