Serena Louise Pfister

"Louise" Pfister died April 6, 2000, at Aspen Meadows Nursing Home after a long debilitation.

She was born December 11, 1904, in Ogden, Kans. to Robert James Huey and Margaret (Musgrove) Huey. Louise survived all her brothers and sisters. She began teaching at 17 in country schools in the Ogden area and later in Ogden. She earned a B. S. in 1930 and an M. S. in 1932 from Kansas State College.

In 1932 she began welfare work for Riley County, Kans. She was county welfare supervisor at the time of her marriage in 1937 to William Pfister of Lusk, Wyoming. They left Wyo. in December 1939, arriving at Huntley, Mont. with a trainload of cattle and sheep, which they trailed up Pryor Creek to the old T. A. Snidow Ranch. They purchased the Tom Tollefson Ranch in the Bull Mountains in 1942.

Mrs. Pfister was an original member of the Bull Mountain Landowners Association and a founding member of the Northern Plains Resource Council, originating the organization's name. She operated the Bull Mountain Ranch after her husband's death, and later with her daughter Ellen. She is survived by her daughter, Ellen and husband Don Golder of the Bull Mountain Ranch, and by a niece Mildred McGee of Cheyenne, Wyo.

Mrs. Pfister loved poetry, her bible, reading, fine sewing and gardening.

Funeral services were held Monday, April 10 at Smith's Downtown Chapel in Billings, Mont. Graveside service were Wednesday April 12 at the Lusk Cemetery in Lusk, Wyo.

Cicmanec-Pier Funeral Home in Lusk was in charge of the local arrangements.
