John E. Pfister Dies in Sheridan

John E. Pfister, 77, a pioneer of the Node community, died at his home in Sheridan Friday, of cancer.

Rosary services were held in the Peet Chapel at 8:00 a.m. Monday. High Mass of Requiem was sung by Rev. Cornelius O'Connor at St. Leo's Catholic Church at 10:00 a.m., Monday. The church choir was composed of Mrs. James Willson, Mrs. James Barrett, Mrs. Martin Brozovich, Mrs. Carl Bruch, and Miss Pauline Bruch. Mrs. Henry Wasserburger was organist.

Pallbearers were Richard Pfister, Jim Pfister, Henry Wasserburger, Robert McGee of Laramie and Donald Olinger of Cheyenne. Burial was in the Lusk Cemetery.

John Edward Pfister, the son of John and Ellen Arnold Pfister was born in Junction City, Kansas, December 15, 1883. He came to Wyoming with his family in 1884, coming from Cheyenne to Lusk by covered wagon. He was reared on a ranch near Node and attended the Lusk schools. He attended business college in Grand Island and Omaha, Neb., and Webb City, Mo. and worked as a bookkeeper for mining companies and a candy company in Joplin, Mo. until 1909. He married Lulu Schoenherr in Kansas City, Mo., January 14, 1909, moving back to the Lusk area the same year.

In 1914 they took out homesteads in the Pumpkin Buttes area, 50 miles southwest of Gillette. Over the years they developed it into one of the larger ranches in Wyoming. They retired from ranching in 1941 and moved to Sheridan.

Survivors include his wife; a son, Dr. C. S. Pfister of Dayton, Wyo.; four brothers, Richard of Edgemont; Edwin of Hat Creek, William of Eugene, Ore.; Tine of Node; four sisters, Mrs. Andrew Joy of Kaycee, Wyo.; Mrs. Earl Anderson of Long Beach, Calif.; Mrs. Ella Dean of Node; Mrs. Henry Wasserburger of Hat Creek, and five grandsons.

Out-of-town friends and relatives attending the services were; Mrs. Pfister, Dr. and Mrs. C. S. Pfister and John of Dayton, Mr. and Mrs. Tom Arnold; Edward Arnold, Rapid City; Mr. and Mrs. Earl Farrington, Crawford; Mr. and Mrs. Robert McGee, Laramie; Mrs. Helen Hale, Lincoln; Donald Olinger, Cheyenne; Mr. and Mrs. Russell Bradley, Bill Bradley, Cheyenne; Mr. and Mrs. Boyd Isaac, Gillette; Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Taylor, Casper; Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Oschgar, Chicago.
