Funeral services for Jim Petersen, 82, of Harrison, Neb., were Saturday, Dec. 28, 1996, at the United Methodist Church in Harrison with the Revs. Neil Kloppenborg and Robert Todd officiating.

Burial was in the Harrison Cemetery. Memorials are to the "Harrison Living Snow Fence Greenbelt" or to the cancer research unit at the University of Nebraska.

He died Wednesday, Dec. 25, 1996 at the Niobrara County Memorial Hospital in Lusk.

He was born Oct. 24, 1914, in Peru, Neb. to John and Ida May (Kelley) Petersen. In 1921, the family moved to a homestead in Wyoming near Keeline.

He married Cleo Leeling Oct. 7, 1938, in Harrison, the newly weds worked for different ranches, and he eventually worked his own ranch north of Lusk.

In 1952 he moved his family north of Harrison, where he worked the Shepherd Ranch for 26 years until retiring to Harrison in 1978, where he resumed working at the Harrison, Lusk and Douglas sale barns.

Survivors include his wife, Harrison; sons and daughters-in law Bill and Freddie of Kimball, Neb. and Glen and Debby of Harrison; grandchildren, Brad and Tracy (Petersen) Sterkel, of Bridgeport, Neb., Todd Petersen of Newton, Iowa, Kelly and Jessalyn Petersen of Scottsbluff, Neb., Vicki Petersen of Kearny, Neb.; great-grandchildren Trevor, Canler, and Wyatt; mother-in-law Cora (Swope) Leeling; sisters Laura Marie, Dorothy and Stella; brothers Howard, Dick and John Jr.; and numerous other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters Maybelle and Hannah and brother Lester.

Bader Funeral Home of Lusk is in charge of arrangements.
