Funeral for Elmer Petty in Texas
Funeral service was held in Conroe, Texas, for Elmer Jennings Petty, 76, who died there February 12.
Mr. Petty was born to Jim and Amy Boyles Petty June 13, 1898, in Anita, Osborn County, Iowa. His mother died when he was 10 and he and two of his brothers came to Van Tassell to live with his grandmother Boyles after his father remarried.
He enlisted in the U. S. Army at Fort Logan, Colo. in 1917 and served during World War I. He married Lila J. May of Trinity, Texas in 1926 and they were the parents of nine children.
When World War II broke out he again enlisted. In 1952 the family moved to Conroe where they lived until his retirement and they moved to Willis, Texas.
Survivors include his wife of Willis; four daughters, Mrs. Marlene J. Carr of the Hague Netherlands, Mrs. Norita J. Dosier of Austin, Texas, Mrs. Peggie J. Castleschouldt and Mrs. Paulette Jones, Conroe; four sons Charles K. of Iran, James A., Conroe, Darrell A. Austin, Texas and Philip L. Spring, Texas; four brothers Cecil of Lusk, Jim, John, David and Vernon of Kansas City, Kan., one sister Mrs. Verna Moyer of Kansas City, his step-mother Bertha Petty, Kansas City and twenty three grandchildren.
