Concluding Services for Samuel Gagstetter are Wednesday, February 15th ; Burial Made in Lusk Cemetery

Concluding services for the late Samuel Gagstetter, long-time resident of Niobrara County and Lusk, were held at 2o'clock Wednesday afternoon, Feb. 15th, from the chapel of the Peet Funeral Home with Clyde Spaulding of the Church of Christ officiating.

The services were enriched with the singing of "Under His Wings," and "Near The Cross" by Mesdames Ramie Fosher and Hobart Cockerham, with Mrs. Clyde Spaulding accompanying at the chapel organ.

Interment was made in the Lusk Cemetery with the remains being borne to their final resting place by Lorenz Heller, George E. Mark, John Siemsen, Hill Boyles, Pete Vondra, and Raliegh Reed. Honorary pallbearers were Victor West, Ed Lewis, Ferd Price, Ed Brown, Ed McKelvey and Gottfried Germann.

Samuel Gagstetter, eldest son of Charles and Mary (Richert) Gagstetter, was born Sept. 17, 1865, at Aurora, Ill., and departed this life at 3:45 Sunday morning, Feb. 12, at the Niobrara Memorial Hospital. His death was due to old age and complications. He had attained the age of 90 years 4 months and 25 days.

He grew to manhood and received his education in numerous places in northern Illinois where his father presided as minister. He was united in marriage to Elizabeth Mall on, June 8, 1899 at Sublette, Ill. To this union three children were born.

The Gagstetters made their home at Sublette, Ill. until 1908, when they moved to Phillips, S.D. to a farm. In March, 1910, the family moved to a homestead four miles south of Van Tassell, Wyo., where Mr. Gagstetter continued to live until 1945, when he came to Lusk to make his home.

During the years between 1910 and 1914, he was in the real estate business. He located a large number of people on homesteads south and west of Van Tassell. His home served as a home to these people until they were situated on their own homesteads. Afterwards, in the horse and wagon days, these people would make it to Van Tassell and back to the Gagstetter home to spend the night.

Mr. Gagstetter was a kind and loving father and a friend to all knew him. The past several years he has been practically blind, but continued to live alone until two weeks ago when he entered the hospital. His only amusements were the radio, his grandchildren and friends who called to see him.

He was preceded in death by his wife on June 23, 1943, one son, Raymond, on June 1, 1955, his parents; two brothers, Charles and Frank Gagstetter, and one sister, Mrs. Sara Voight.

Survivors include one son, Roland, of El Segundo, Calif.; a daughter, Mrs. Edna Schnorenberg, of Lusk; one brother, Benjamin Gagstetter, of Dixon, Ill.; three grandsons, five great grandchildren, many nieces and nephews besides a host of relatives.

Samuel Gagstetter Dies Here Sunday

Samuel Gagstetter, 90, died at the Niobrara Memorial Hospital at 3:45 a.m. Sunday, Feb. 12 from old age and complications. He had been in the hospital the past two weeks.

Funeral services were conducted this Wednesday afternoon at 2:00 P.M. at the Peet Mortuary with Clyde Spaulding, minister of the Church of Christ Officiating. Interment was made in the Lusk Cemetery.

Mrs. Ramie Fosher and Mrs. Hobart Cockerham sang "Under His Wings" and "Near the Cross" accompanied by Mrs. Clyde Spaulding, organist.

Casket bearers were Lorenz Heller, George E. Mark, John Siemsen, Hill Boyles, Pete Vondra and Raleigh Reed.

Honorary casket bearers were Victor West, Ed Lewis, Ferd Price, Ed McKelvey, Gotfreid Germann and Ed Brown.

Samuel Gagstetter, eldest son of Charles and Mary Gagstetter was born September 17, 1865 at Aurora, Ill. receiving his education in various places in northern Illinois. He married Elizabeth Mall on June 8, 1899 at Sublette, Ill. They were the parents of three children.

They homesteaded four miles south of Van Tassell in March of 1910, where Gagstetter lived until his retirement in 1945 when he moved to Lusk.

He was preceded in death by his wife on June 23, 1943; one son Raymond on June 1, 1955; his father, mother, two brothers, Charles and Frank Gagstetter and one sister Mrs. Sara Voight.

He is survived by one son, Roland of El Segundo, Calif.; a daughter, Mrs. Walter Schnorenberg, Sr. of Lusk; one brother, Benjamin Gagstetter of Dixon, Ill.; three grandsons, five great grandchildren, many nieces and nephews.
