Memorial services for Mary Peterson, 74, were held April 11 at Peet Mortuary Chapel in Lusk with Rev. Dan Gainer officiating. Burial was in the Lusk Cemetery.

She died Tuesday, Apr. 8 at Natrona County Memorial Hospital in Casper. She was born Nov. 5, 1911 at Edgemont, S.D., the daughter of Edward and Hannah Rumney, and spent her entire childhood on the family ranch in northern Niobrara County. She attended Spencer Country School.

Mary Rumney Peterson married Julius N. Peterson on Sept. 30, 1941 in Hot Springs, S.D. They lived in the Mule Creek Oil Field for one and one half years, and on May 1, 1943, moved to the Peterson Ranch 20 miles north of Lance Creek where she lived until her death.

Country life was designed for Mary. She enjoyed animals of all kinds and worked regularly with lambs. She also loved all kinds of gardening, especially flowers with her yard and flowers being a special source of pride to her.

Mary Peterson was especially proud of her eight grandchildren and devoted a lot of time to each. She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother.

Survivors include her husband, Julius of Lance Creek; three sons, Paul Peterson of Tigard, Ore., and Clyde and Steve Peterson both on the ranch north of Lance Creek; eight grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends.

Memorials to the American Heart Association will be appreciated by the family.
