Jerry Lee Fergason
Jerry Lee Furgason, a Navy Veteran and law enforcement officer who served several years with the Hanna Police Department, died Wednesday, Oct. 18, 2000, at Ivanson Memorial Hospital in Laramie. He was 63.
Services were planned for 2 p.m. Tuesday, October 24, at St. Thomas Episcopal Church in Rawlins.
Jerry was born Oct. 12, 1937, at Northport, Neb., the son of Ora Lee and Opal K. (Alter) Furgason.
The family moved to Cheyenne and Jerry attended Cheyenne Public School.
He married Zoda Suits on Dec. 16, 1973.
Jerry worked in law enforcement most of his adult life, beginning with the Cheyenne Police Department. After several years in Nevada, he returned to Wyoming. Jerry was chief of Lusk Police Department, and served with the Rock Springs Police Department before joining the Hanna Police Department. He became ill in 1993.
Jerry was active in the communities where he lived. He was a member of St. Mark's Episcopal Church in Hanna. He has been industrious in the various Masonic organizations, holding membership in Hanna Lodge #50 AF&M, consistory #1, Korein Shrine Temple and Hanna Chapter #45 Order of Eastern Star. He worked with Job's Daughters and DeMolay.
Jerry loved rodeo, and was a member of the Red Desert Roundup Rodeo Committee for 11 years. He chaired the group in 1989 and 1990.
Jerry Furgason "loved Wyoming, and the hunting and in later years the fishing it provided," his family said.
Survivors are his wife, Zoda, of Hanna, sons Scott, of Lincoln, Neb., and Devin of Burley, Idaho; a daughter Candice Nielson, also of Burleigh; stepchildren Ada Kaser of Hanna, C.Charles Kaser of Salt Lake City; foster son Michael Munoz of Denver, a brother Jennings Ralph of Indiana.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Glenn, sister Shirley Sefang and his infant son Anthony.
Honorary pall bearers are Davis Haas, Tony Rose, Leon "Skip" Johnson, Mark Furman, Dean "Doc" Schroeder and Steve Brown.
Gifts in memory of Jerry Furgason may be made to the Wyoming Peace Officers Scholarship Fund, 315 West 22nd, Cheyenne, 82002-0150, the Korein Temple Travel Fund, Box 640, Rawlins, 82301, or to a charity of the donors choice.
