Hugo Payne Dies In Calif. Thurs.; Services Tuesday

Hugo F. Payne, 68, a Lusk business man for 29 years, died at his home in Costa Mesa, Calif. last Thursday of a chronic heart condition. He had been in failing health for some time.

Funeral services were held at the Peet Chapel at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday with the Rev. James Davis in charge. Frank Kuhn sang as a solo, "The Lord's Prayer." A quartet composed of Gerald Bardo, James Willson, Don Keys and Lee Johnsonbaugh sang "The Old Rugged Cross" and "Crossing the Bar." Mrs. Gerald Bardo was organist.

Bearers were: C. E. Marvin, Percy Beagle, Robert Taylor, H. J. Templeton, Ray Baughn and Harry Boner. Honorary bearers were: Andrew Christian, Emerson Bonner, Clem Mosier, Roscoe Kilmer, Ted Lohr, C. W. Erwin, Joe Kuhn of Phoenix, Ariz., Barney Miller and Earl Peet. Burial was in the Douglas Cemetery.

Hugo F. Payne, son of John L. and Jane Payne, was born at Laurel, Nebr. July 23, 1894. While he was a small boy, the family moved to Wayne, Nebr. where he received his education. In 1916 he came to Wyoming, homesteading northeast of Douglas. After living in that vicinity for several years, he returned to eastern Nebraska. He came to Lusk in 1922 where he was engaged in various business enterprises until his retirement ten years ago. He married Edna Tenney June 26, 1928. During his residence in Lusk he served several terms as councilman. He was also a member of the Lusk B.P.O. Elks. Since his retirement, Mr. and Mrs. Payne had enjoyed fishing along the west coast. They had made their home at Costa Mesa.

Survivors include his wife; a son, James Tenney of Costa Mesa; a daughter, Mrs. Don Glover of Leadville, Colo.; a brother, Gene L. Payne of Douglas; three grandchildren and five great grandchildren.

Out-of-town relatives attending the services were: Mr. and Mrs. L. O. Beach, Mr. and Mrs. Gene Payne, Sr., Mr. and Mrs. Gene Payne, Jr., Mr. and Mrs. John Dilts, Douglas; Mr. and Mrs. C. M. McLeland, Newcastle; Mr. and Mrs. Don Glover and Mrs. Kay Bogunovitch, Leadville, Colo.; Mr. and Mrs. James Tenney, Costa Mesa, Calif.
